Brigham and God (1877)
Posted in Striving For Respect (1870-1877) by D Marriott at 11:08 am |
Brigham Young was not known to be especially humble when discusiing his role in building the Lord’s Kingdom in the Great Basin - nor did he necessarily have need to be. After his death in 1877, there arose a classic story, and although possibly apocryphal, it is nevertheless an appropriate characterization of the church president’s secular accomplishments. Brigham was conducting a visiting clergyman around the propserous Salt Lake Valley, when the impressed visitor commented on what an amazing job Brigham and God and accomplished. Brigham responded, “Yes and you should have seen it when he Lord had it alone!”
