Blossom Like A Rose!

Many of the pioneer Saints of 1847 had reason to question the seemingly hopeless prophesy of Brigham Young’s that the Salt Lake Basin would one day “blossom like a rose.” And yet four decades later it seemed dramatically fulfilled. The Department of Agriculture under President Benjamin Harrison awarded a five-hundred-dollar prize for the best five acres of wheat grown in the United States to William Gibby in Salt Lake County while a farmer in Spanish Fork, Utah County, won a cash prize for the best yield of potatoes per acre.
